Short + Simple = Effective: Best Practices for Tech Video Ads

By Hope Horner

Videos are getting shorter and shorter, and that shouldn’t come as a surprise. If you’re like me, 10-second Snapchat videos of a friend’s pet, significant other, or dinner plate sometimes feel a tad long. If you look at television ads, most of them are in the 15-second range. While only half the length of a 30-second ad that costs twice as much to produce, those shorter spots are 75 percent as effective as longer commercials.

Despite the additional cost, those extra seconds can often be remarkably useful, allowing you to tell a more captivating story that goes into greater depth. Plus, 30-second videos are generally still short enough to keep the attention of most viewers — as long as they’re compelling.

3 ways to elevate your video marketing strategy

By Hope Horner

“Did you see that video everyone is talking about?” You probably hear this at least once a week. People these days are just as crazy about online video as they were about moving pictures in the days of the silent silver screen, and streaming video is only getting more popular. You still have time to get ahead of the curve — and your competitors — but you need a game plan.

If you aren’t sure whether online video content is a priority for your marketing needs, you should know that 64 percent of consumers are more likely to pull the trigger on a purchase after watching a video about the product. Video is already a vital piece of any digital marketing campaign, and yet many businesses focus on the wrong elements because they don’t have a video marketing strategy in place. In fact, according to Buffer, while 83 percent of marketers want to create more video, many aren’t sure how to film and edit a video or what to put in it.

Beyond Marketing: Using Video to Address Customer Concerns

By Hope Horner

The meteoric rise in the use of self-service options goes beyond a hatred of mind-numbing hold music. In fact, 75 percent of customers find the convenience of self-service attractive.

While today’s tech-savvy consumers are more empowered when it comes to finding answers to solve their own problems, they’re also more impatient with customer service than ever before. When customers run into support issues, they’re more likely to try to resolve those problems online and on their own terms than to reach out to a company over a call or email.

This makes good sense: Most customer service call centers have limited hours, while a company’s website is available at any time. What’s more, although people often complain that interacting with traditional phone-based customer service takes too long, the opposite side of that coin is viewed as an advantage of online self-service: They have as much time as they like to find the answers they need.

How to Effectively Match Your Video Content to the Buyer’s Journey

By Hope Horner

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then video must be pushing a million. Unlike still images, video marketing has the power to not only showcase your brand’s personality and tell an authentic story, but also to call your most important viewers to action.

Over 70 percent of businesses report seeing better conversion rates when using video over plain text in their marketing initiatives, and about three-quarters of B2B marketers corroborate that claim, according to a Demand Metric survey.

However, video isn’t only effective in closing sales — it can also be used to usher down the funnel those who aren’t quite ready to purchase. By carefully considering what your video content is about and how it’s positioned, you can turn new leads into lifelong customers.

4 Ways to Drive Your Digital Strategy with Facebook Video Ads

By Hope Horner

You know social media provides essential channels for maximizing digital marketing efforts. But what types of content are most effective on which platforms? From my view as a player in the video production and distribution game, I can tell you: Facebook video ads are your best bet.

The amount of traffic generated by these ads continues to grow at an astounding rate. To illustrate, by the end of 2015, Facebook was seeing about 8 billion video views per day. At the close of 2014, this figure was only one billion per day. Moreover, video traffic accounted for 70 percent of all consumer internet traffic in 2015, and this number is expected to rise to 82 percent by 2020.

When Facebook video ads enjoy an organic reach that is 159 percent greater than regular posts, it’s clear that video isn’t being consumed so much as devoured these days. While they certainly hold exciting potential, it’s important to avoid common mistakes that can cripple your campaign.

3 Ways to Optimize Your Video Advertising Strategy on Facebook

By Hope Horner

Finally, you can use Facebook videos to make real money. Facebook is clearly taking video seriously as an advertising resource, as it should.

While Facebook videos have historically been free of advertisements, following last year’s announcement that pre-roll ads would play before videos within Facebook’s Audience Network, brands started exploring new ways to leverage video on the platform.

Now, Facebook videos will contain mid-roll ads, too. After a few seconds, YouTube allows users to skip ads that play before its videos, but Facebook’s mid-roll ads can be inserted into any video that’s 90 seconds in length or more. They start to play after 20 seconds, so if a viewer wants to finish the video, she'll need to sit through the mid-roll ad. With this exciting development, both the platform and content creators can fully capitalize on the boom in streaming video.

How Brands Can Capitalize on FACEBOOK'S MID-ROLL AD LAUNCH

By Hope Horner

If you’re on Facebook, you may have noticed advertisements kicking up in the middle of videos in your news feed.

With the introduction of mid-roll ads at the beginning of this year, Facebook is making a move to start monetizing its video traffic, partly for its own benefit and partly for the benefit of the publishers that supply the site with videos. The latter group gets 55 percent of all ad sales, which mirrors the split YouTube offers its publishers.

These ads are somewhat controversial. For advertisers, they are a very useful means of reaching a precisely calibrated audience, but the interruption of the mid-roll ad can seem a little invasive to users and content creators alike.

3 Brands That Have Mastered High-Converting Video

By Hope Horner

If you’re still ruminating on 2017 resolutions for your business, adding video to your content marketing should be at the top of your list. An overwhelming majority (70 percent) of businesses saw an improved conversion ratio using video ads over plain text in their marketing.

Considering how much easier it is for our brains to rapidly digest visual images than to comprehend text, this is no big surprise. Video is simply more eye-catching, which automatically improves your chances of winning potential customers’ attention. People are intrinsically drawn to moving pictures.

A simple video showcasing the features and real-life applications of your product can create a much stronger emotional connection to your audience than complicated diagrams or pages of written content ever could.

How to Create an Effective Crowdfunding Video for Your Startup

By Hope Horner

Crowdfunding is not only a popular strategy for getting a product or startup off the ground, but also an increasingly viable one.

New legislation lets startups raise capital from the general public. Companies can now receive up to $1 million from non-accredited investors, prompting many businesses to enter the arena and, ultimately, attract more issuers. What’s more, equity crowdfunding companies like StartEngine make the process really easy for companies to raise money on their platforms, which has led to a big expansion in the space.

If you want to reach and inspire the crowdfunding community, video is a great medium. In fact, campaigns that utilize video pitches garner four times more funding than those that don’t.

4 KEYS TO CREATING THE VIDEO AD YOUR BUSINESS NEEDS

By Hope Horner

Video marketing pays. Just ask software giant Adobe. After a recent $540 million acquisition, the company now has two major video production products: Spark and TubeMogul.

Adobe is one of a number of big new players in the video production game, and it’s not just swinging for the fences with this acquisition but investing in advertising tools that target individual users and the SMB market. Its competitors are, too. According to the market research firm eMarketer, U.S. spending on mobile and desktop video advertising is skyrocketing and could hit $10 billion by the end of 2016. And technology conglomerate Cisco predicts streaming video will account for approximately 80 percent of internet traffic by 2019.

Entrepreneurs and small business owners can’t afford to ignore stats like these. These days, branded video is just as critical an asset as a company website, and perhaps even more important when it comes to reaching and engaging customers.
